The Never-ending Reality

Did you know 1 un-spayed cat and her kittens can produce MORE than 400,000 cats in their lifetime? A female cat can get pregnant at just 4 months old and have 3 litters of kittens each year. An average litter size ranges from 4 to 6 kittens!

Why is this important to know, and why should you share this information?

More needs to be done to help the street cats of the UAE, starting with a nationwide effort and program to TNR (Trap Neuter Release) or TNRV (Trap Neuter Release Vaccinate). In a TNR program, community cats can be humanely trapped (with box traps), taken to a vet to be spayed or neutered, and vaccinated to help stop the spread of feline sickness. They can then be released and return to their outdoor home to carry on with their lives and not reproduce, bringing unnecessary suffering to more kittens and cats.

TNR is the most effective way (as endorsed by the WSPCA and ASPCA) to contain and control stray populations. Your community will be more peaceful as spayed and neutered cats tend to fight less to find a mate, and males will become less territorial, leading to less marking and smells.

In the UAE, you can normally identify a stray cat that has been TNR’d by looking at their ears. Most vets will eartip the cat to show they’ve been neutered or spayed. There’s amazing individual rescuers and community cat people in the UAE that help TNR cats, but the costs and responsibilities without funding and regular support can be overwhelming.

How can you support?

It takes a community of people to help make these changes and help the powers that be, hear the voices of the voiceless. If we have the capacity to help, we should, however great or small that help is. Ask your local vet if they support TNR’s and if they have special rates for strays. Ask your community how you can help and speak with community management to understand their commitment in humanely helping the stray populations.

So many cats and dogs suffer needlessly due to actions (and inactions) of people. In a world where you can be anything, be kind, knowledge is power, and working together can make the change happen faster.

Our mission is simple and smart- to help keep paws safer, and with your help, we can leave the UAE a better place for the voiceless paws in all seven Emirates.

How Where My Paws At’s smart technology services can help

Our app and smart tags have been designed and developed in Dubai to help pet parents with all of these things. We’ve taken additional stresses away to help you in your time of need. Our app is free to download for iPhone and Android, then once registered our smart tags will link to your pet’s unique profile. Anyone using a camera phone can scan your tag, they don’t need our app to identify your pet.

Our WMPA community is growing every day, so we’ve decided to expand our protection to other Emirates starting with Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah.

We’re building a safer community using smart technology, keeping your paws safe!
